Town Hall Weddings

Following on from our recent article on The Dorchester we continue our theme of London wedding locations. This time we have a look at what Islington Town Hall has to offer.
For those looking into venues for a Civil Wedding Ceremony there are many new and exciting locations to choose from that add an interesting dimension to a wedding: football clubs, museums, and architectural landmarks.

The Council Chamber at Islington Town Hall is no exception. This classical peice of architecture is a Grade 2 listed building. Both the Hall and Chamber were constructed in the 1920s in the reign of George the Fifth.

The Chamber can hold up to 100 people seated in civic pomp and circumstance on fine red leather chairs. There is also a pubic gallery which can seat a further 100 guests. The room itself is built on an octagonal design similar to that found in buildings such as Orleans Gallery in Twickenham. The oak panelled walls underneath stained glass windows are inscribed with illuminati of the town council past. Whilst the roof of this majestic room soars upward into an impressive dome.

To enter the Chamber guests ascend a grand marble staircase that gives an impression that you are entering a very important space.

On reaching the top of the stairs there is an equally impressive ante-room where nervous brides bide their time before the big oak doors are dramatically swung open for them to precess arcoss the red carpet to where their groom awaits.

We recently shot a wedding at Islington Town Hall, more on that later, but everyone we spoke to after the ceremony commented on their impressions of the awe-inspiring venue and the professionalism of the staff there.

We have it on good authority that this is one of the best maintained and original Victorian town halls in London.
